They Told Me To Expect Rain

The predominantly oral tradition of weather lore has been used worldwide by communities whose livelihoods are greatly dependent on elements of nature for their survival. Over generations, this dependence has given rise to the practice of forecasting weather through proverbs, many of which are still in use across the world.

These often minute changes in temperature, atmospheric pressure, precipitation or even species behaviour that are linked to geographic phenomena; serve as important guidelines to communities on how to interact with their native ecosystems.

'Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor's warning.'

'Rings around the moon, rain/snow coming soon.'
